New Publications on the Gopher Tortoise

Congratulations to Dr. Justin Rosenberg and colleagues for the publication of two new studies on inflammatory markers in the gopher tortoise. This was an interesting collaboration with the University of Florida and we thank Dr. Rosenberg for the opportunity to work with his samples.

In the first paper, “Diagnostic performance of inflammatory markers in gopher tortoises (Gopherus polyphemus), Dr. Rosenberg examined changes in ESR, white blood cells, protein electrophoresis fractions, fibrinogen, and lactate in sick or injured tortoises. In the second paper, “Reference intervals for erythrocyte sedimentation rate, lactate, fibrinogen, hematology, and plasma protein electrophoresis in clinically healthy captive gopher tortoises (Gopherus polyphemus), Dr. Rosenberg produced reference interval data from 23 clinically healthy tortoises after rehabilitation. Significant differences were observed by sex and season.
