Great Joint Meeting in Dallas

The Avian & Wildlife Laboratory was pleased to be an exhibitor and sponsor of the AEMV and ARAV sessions. A highlight of the meeting was our special event featuring Dr. Al Dove, Vice President of Research and Conservation from the Georgia Aquarium. Dr. Dove presented an amazing lecture about his incredible work with the whale shark entitled, “Embrace the Ocean: Your Friend for Life.” The event, co-sponsored by Harrison’s Bird Foods, attracted more than 100 attendees. Participants received many special giveaways and were entered into a prize drawing if they committed to the Do One Thing program. Everyone chose one positive thing they were going to change in their life to help the environment and minimize adverse effects on animals. This idea was an extension of our previous showing of the movie “Racing Extinction” at the Association of Avian Veterinarians meeting in Washington in July. Thanks to all the participants! Look for more updates on this continuing program soon.

During the meeting, Dr. Carolyn Cray presented her work in several sessions including the “Use of a Lateral Flow Device for the Quantitation of Serum Amyloid A Levels in Otostrongylus infected Northern Elephant Seals”, “Validation of New Serological Testing for Aspergillosis in the Bottlenose Dolphin” and “New Research in E. cuniculi Serodiagnostics” as part of the annual roundtable at the AEMV session. Dr. Cray also presented a master’s class for AAZV on the “How, What, and Why of Acute Phase Protein Testing.” Dr. Cray was also pleased to collaborate on 5 other presentations. Thanks to everyone for a great meeting!
