Great Presentations at AAZV

The annual American Association of Zoo Veterinarians meeting was held in Atlanta July 16-22 in conjunction with the European Association of Zoo and Wildlife Veterinarians and the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research. The Avian & Wildlife Laboratory and the Acute Phase Protein Laboratory were proud to be a collaborator of 4 projects presented at the conference. One of the studies, entitled, “Serum amyloid A: an inflammatory marker of Otostrongylus infection in juvenile Northern elephant seals (Mirounga angustirostris) in central California” was awarded the Best Presentation Award. Congratulations to Dr. Julie Sheldon and all of her collaborators!

Our other projects:

Sarah Wahlstrom – “Coelomic fluid analysis of two sea star genera: a comparison of healthy sea stars and those affected by sea star wasting disease”

Leigh Clayton – “Determining total hemocyte counts and hemolymph clinical chemistry profiles for free-ranging American horseshoe crabs (Limulus polyphemus)”

Charlene Lujan – “Chlamydiaceae in free-ranging hawks (Buteo sp.) in Northern California”
