Lauren Thielen, D.V.M.

Dr. Lauren Thielen is originally from Texas and attended Texas A&M University (TAMU) College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, she was awarded the Kaytee Avian and Special Species Award for her interest in and contribution to avian research and medicine. During her senior year of veterinary school, she also conducted field research on parrots in the heart of the Amazon rainforest at the Tambopata Research Center in Peru, climbing 100 foot trees to asses baby scarlet macaw chicks and collect data critical to the species understanding and survival.

Dr.Thielen completed a 1-year exotic animal medicine internship at Broward Avian and Exotic Animal Hospital. She then went on to complete a 2-year avian residency at the Veterinary Center for Birds & Exotics in Bedford Hills, New York, where she was able to work towards her life-long goal of becoming a board certified avian specialist. Dr. Thielen is on the board of directors for the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians (AEMV) with the position of member at large and serves as the AEMV Marketing Chair. Additionally, she is a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians and the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr.Thielen is currently Associate D.V.M. at Broward Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital. She is featured on the television show Dr. K’s Exotic Animal ER on NatGeo WILD, her platform for educating people all over the world about exotic animal care and husbandry.
